I was always fascinated to observe the interplay between Richard and Elizabeth. If he was gifted, eloquent, openly persuasive, she was subtle, quietly convincing. In a sense they always competed with each other - but at best the interaction was healthy, open and humorous. Richard used to say with pride that Elizabeth could get what she wanted merely by look or gesture. I witnessed it - it was true.
